José M. Barceló Ordinas
Associate Professor (Titular de Universidad)

Research Interests:
I am conducting my research in the CompNet (Computer Networks) Research Group. CompNet is part of the Computer Networks and Distributed Systems (CNDS) Research Group, accredited by UPC and accredited by AGAUR (Agencia d'Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca) de la Generalitat de Catalunya as a Consolidated Research Group. The CompNet Research Group currently is leaded by Prof. Jorge García Vidal and was born at the beginning of the 90's. During the 90's, our research activities were focussed on Broadband Communications with special emphasis in ATM networks and performance evaluation. We have also researched on Internet Topology (BGPv4 and Internet topology) and TCP/IP protocol design.

My current areas of interest are Wireless Networks and Mobile Networks:

  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and Multimedia Wireless Sensor Networks (WMSN),
  • Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET),
  • Delay/Disruptive Tolerant Networks (DTN) and,
  • Mobility models for opportunistic networking.

PhD Students:

Former PhD Students:

  • Dr. Juan I. Nieto-Hipolito (UABC, México), Title of the PhD Thesis: Analysis of the Internet Topology and generation models, PhD Defense date, June 2005
  • Dr. Mohammad Alaei, (University of Kerman, Iran) Title of the PhD Thesis: Energy Efficient Cooperative Node Management for Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks, PhD Defense date, June 2013

Internship Students:

  • Diego Borsetti (Polit. Torino, Italy): Sept 2008 - March 2009
  • Raul Campos Mendoza (UABC, México), June 2009
  • Messaoud (Samir) Doudou (CERIST, Algiers, Algeria), June 2011, Dicember 2012, November 2013.

MsC Students (Master of Research CANS, Master of Research MIRI):

  • Oscar Trullols-Cruces, MsC Title (Master of Research CANS): Applying Delay Tolerant Protocols to VANETs, July 2008.
  • Petros Melachrinos, MsC Title (Master of Research CANS): CoAP in Wireless Sensor Networks, July 2013.

During these years I have also supervised many BsC and MsC thesis, non research oriented. I don't list them here.
