Invited tutorial for OFC 2021
I have been invited to give a tutorial during OFC 2021 entitled "How intent-based networking can be embedded within transport optical networks".
This 1-hour tutorial will cover intent-based networking, automated networks and control-loops, and it will show how optical transport networks can be automated and be prepared for beyond 5G smart network services and applications.

The conference will run from 6 - 10 June 2021 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, USA.

Spotlight on Optics
Our paper "Machine Learning for Network Automation: Overview, Architecture, and Applications [Invited Tutorial]" has been selected as Spotlight on Optics by OSA, and the article made openly accesible to the community.
"This tutorial is an excellent introduction to the major concepts and applications of machine learning (ML) in optical networks."
Jane M. Simmons
Editor-in-Chief Journal of Optical Communications and Networking.

New MSCA-EID project MENTOR
A new MSCA-EID project MENTOR: Machine lEarning in optical NeTwORks has been accepted and will start in 2021 with a duration of 4 years.

MENTOR will be focused on the application of machine learning techniques for high-capacity multi-band optical systems.
We will start soon recluiting 2 PhD students with stunning background on optical communications and networks, as well as on Machine Learning techniques:
  • Distributed intelligence for the performance degradation detection at optical layer: focused on the development of techniques for collaborative intelligence applied to the detection of performance degradation of optical connections and the identification of the root cause.
  • Architecture to support distributed intelligence: focused on the design and implementation of an architecture to support distributing intelligence for the control of optical networks.
